Charlie Sheen, Tough Guy (With Women)

By Jack Engelhard

Tough guy – eh?

Back in my neighborhood a guy like this, like Charlie Sheen, would have some explaining to do. We’d escort him out back into an alley to show us how tough he really is – how tough he is by picking on someone his own size. We’d have him put up his dukes against a guy, not a girl.

We drew the line in my neighborhood. Mothers, daughters, sisters, girlfriends, wives, all women, were off limits.

JACK ENGELHARD’S “SLOT ATTENDANT”

By John W. Cassell

My copy of Jack Engelhard’s SLOT ATTENDANT came this afternoon.  As I was reading another truly engrossing novel at the time and NEVER read more than one book at a time, I set myself the modest goal of reading chapter one today, then finishing the other book tomorrow, thereafter reading this long-eagerly anticipated story solely until completion.

You know what happens to the “best laid plans….”  Likely you do in Gaelic as well as English.

What happens is, here it is almost 2AM and I just finished SLOT ATTENDANT.  I could NOT put it down.  I could not stop until I knew as much as the author cared to tell me about every absorbing subplot, as well as learning heaps about both casinos, in which I have a certain rooting interest, and the world of writing and publishing…a world so important to me and many people I deeply care about…. not until I learned the outcome of protagonist Jay Leonard’s desperate battle to regain both confidence in and respect for himself.

Having lost both myself once upon a time, I found myself quickly empathizing with his brilliantly orchestrated struggle.  I FELT for this man…Jack Engelhard is that kind of writer…superlatively combining personal experience, the experience of others, and a truly vivid, thoroughly grounded imagination to paint this compelling portrait.

Fox News Behaving Badly?

By Jack Engelhard

The Obama administration has found the enemy and it is Fox News. The New York Times and CNN got it straight from the lips of White House communications director Anita Dunn who revealed that, “We’re going to treat them [Fox News] the way we would treat an opponent.”

Hello Lady? The press is SUPPOSED to be an opponent! That’s why it’s called the Fourth Estate, to keep a sharp eye on the other three Estates, executive, legislative, judicial. Nowhere is it written that the press shall collaborate with the government; quite the opposite if my reading of Thomas Jefferson is correct: “The only security of all is in a free press.”

Ms. Dunn, obviously speaking for Mr. Obama, accuses Fox News of being a branch of the Republican Party. This can only mean that the White House finds no such sinfulness among all the other networks, which suggests that the rest of them are branches of the Democrat Party. I’m not saying this, she is (if not in so many words).

Bibi Did All Right At The UN – But Here’s Kahane’s “Dear World”

Yes, I am aware that Rabbi Meir Kahane is considered an extremist, but whatever your point of view, pro Kahane or anti Kahane, he still speaks to us from the grave in these words he wrote before his assassination in 1990. This is what he said and if anyone can dispute the truth of his message, let him speak up:  (I present it here only in part. The rest is in the book.)

Written Months Before His Assassination In 1990

By Rabbi Meir Kahane

Dear World:

It appears that you are hard to please. I understand that you are upset over us here in Israel. Indeed, it appears that you are quite upset, even angry and outraged. Indeed, every few years you seem to become upset over us. Today, it is the brutal repression of the Palestinians; yesterday, it was Lebanon; before that it was the bombing of the nuclear reactor in Baghdad and the Yom Kippur War campaign. It appears that Jews who triumph, and who therefore, live, upset you most extraordinarily.

Toronto Hate-Fest, Starring Jane Fonda (Updated)

By Jack Engelhard

Then, in 2001, is was Durban, where a pretext of human rights was turned into a Conga Line of Israel bashing. Now it’s Toronto. This cause is also good, on the surface. There’s an international film festival going on even as we speak – and who can complain about something so artistic? Well, there’s a problem.

Organizers decided to honor Tel Aviv and Israeli filmmakers and as we know, no good deed goes unpunished.

Trade In Grandma and Other Clunkers (Save Obama’s Healthcare)

By Jack Engelhard

Hello, I’m from the government and I’m here to help.

Our “cash for clunkers” has proven to be so successful that we’ve decided to extend the program for cars – and for people. Of course there is no place to trade in your elderly, people, in other words, that have too much mileage on them. You cannot simply dump and deposit seniors in some lot, get cash for them, and then go home.

So as part of our new and improved healthcare bill, we’ve inaugurated a set-up where people over the age of 65 will be – speaking frankly – at the mercy of the government. Since we know best, we the government will decide who shall live and who shall die. If, for example, a person begins to stutter, or if, for example, a man or a woman has already served his or her purpose in life, well, it’s time to go.

Some people simply aren’t worth the bother.
