Is Richard Gere Responsible?

By Jack Engelhard

First let me say that I do not watch Hollywood award shows strictly for the cleavage. No, I’m in it for the Art — and the Cleavage.

Salma Hayek is the best actor in the world though I have never seen any of her movies. That one eye-candy moment at the Golden Globes was persuasive enough.

For me, the awards season began with the National Book Awards on C-Span, where I learned that there are agents, editors and publishers who actually support writers. This amazed me. One writer after another – the winners – got up and gushed over these people who were so “helpful” and “devoted.” In what universe is this happening?

Expel The Media

By Jack Engelhard

The major news organizations, all across the firmament of newspapers, radio and TV, are complaining that Israel won’t let them into Gaza.

Ain’t that a shame.

A newscaster named Smith spoke for his fellow foreign correspondents when he said that reporters have a “right” to gain access to the conflict.

Israel has an “obligation” so that the “truth” can be told.

The last big “truth” I remember was the Muhammad al-Durra hoax that was staged in cahoots between Palestinian and French “journalists.” This blood-libel provoked a killing spree against Israelis even after the facts came out to reveal that 1.the boy was killed by Arab gunfire, not Israeli; 2, the boy wasn’t killed at all. He walked off the set with his father after the director yelled “cut” (and you thought only Hollywood made movies).

Spare the Pieties on Gaza

By Jack Engelhard

Frankly, given a choice, I prefer the skinheads and other brutes who express their anti-Semitism openly. In such places, we know the enemy.

But please spare me the pieties and the righteous indignation of those “good people” protesting throughout Europe against Israel’s defensive operation in Gaza. True, thousands have taken up banners in support of Israel. At the same time, however, the streets of Europe (and even some in America) are in an uproar. These are the “humanitarians” – the good, the noble, the refined who chant “Peace.”

Now you’re up and about? Now you speak? Where were you when, throughout the years, thousands of Jihadist bombs fell on Israel? The streets of Europe were empty. There were no pictures in the newspapers of grieving Jewish mothers and fathers. You called it “peace” as long as the Arabs were doing the killing and the Jews were doing the dying. All was well with the world.

King David: Faith Lost and Found

By Jack Engelhard

That’s quite a fix to be in when not only have you run out of answers, but you’ve also run out of questions.

How many times can we ask – Why did God let this happen?

I’m here on the question of Mumbai, India, the slaughter that took place, and in particular the Jews who were singled out for special torture and murder by Islamists.

Via e-mail messages, I’ve been getting many words of understanding and comfort, but none of them works for me. Have I lost faith? That can never happen, not with my genes that date back to my Biblical namesake, Jacob. But something did make me teeter. I lost the connection. This happens to me now and then, certainly when I think of the Holocaust. Why did God let this happen?

Writer Burns Her Own Book

[Intro from Jack Engelhard: We’ve all endured this frustration about a book we’re trying to write – but it just refuses to happen.  I met Orit online. I ran into one of her pieces at israelinsider.com and was taken by her brutal honesty and her cool style with words. I’ve been a fan ever since. She is also a knockout in the looks department and I promised to cast her when The Bathsheba Deadline goes Hollywood, a promise I intend to keep. But enough from me. Here’s Orit.]

I Burned my Own Book

By Orit Arfa

Beware any society that burns books–it is one that leads to a dictatorship. To name a few: China’s Qin Dynasty, Nazi Germany, Ray Bradbury’s fictional America in his novel Farenheit 451.

So what does that say about me? I just burned a book—my own. Have I become a one woman dictatorship?

Actually, I felt like I had to burn my book so that I stop becoming a dictator—over myself.

Robert Spencer on THE BATHSHEBA DEADLINE (and World War3)

Robert Spencer is a leading authority on Islam. His website www.jihadwatch.com  tells all on a daily basis. His latest book is titled STEALTH JIHAD. His breakthrough book and constant best-seller is titled THE POLITICALLY INCORRECT GUIDE TO ISLAM. Here are his comments on Jack Engelhard’s factual-novel THE BATHSHEBA DREADLINE – perhaps more timely today than ever, keeping in mind what happened in India and what keeps happening all over:

“A rousing thriller about clashing ideals, clashing moral standards, and clashing civilizations, THE BATHSHEBA DEADLINE is a page-turner with much more than just entertainment value (although it delivers that in abundance); it is an insightful, courageous look inside the headlines to reveal what we’re facing in our war on terror. Readers will learn more about the global conflict with Radical Islam from THE BATHSHEBA DEADLINE than they will from legions of supposedly expert media news analysts. Bravo!” – Robert Spencer.

Who Is Obama Reading?

By Jack Engelhard

During his interview on “60 Minutes” president-elect Barack Obama mentioned a book that he’d been reading on FDR’s first 100 Days. He did not name the book, tantalizing publishers that had such books on the shelves. After all, the mere mention of a book by Obama could lead to dancing – best seller!

Turns out that the prize went to two authors, Jonathan Alter and Jean Edward Smith. He’d been reading them both on FDR.

Bingo.

Some people have all the luck. However, a week or so earlier, the New York Times asked people to suggest what books Obama OUGHT TO BE reading, and here came the (truly gifted) writer John W. Cassell. He wrote in and suggested “The Bathsheba Deadline” as MUST READING. Well, until we find Obama with that book of mine (and riches to follow) I thought I’d present a portion of “The Bathsheba Deadline” that in fact touches on FDR. From page 154 of the paperback version, here goes:

Condi Makes Aliya- Obama Maybe

 By Jack Engelhard

As of this moment we don’t know who Obama has in mind for Secretary of State. For sure it won’t be Joe the Plumber. Won’t be Joe the Senator, either (Lieberman).  Let’s hope it won’t be Condi all over again. Even as we speak, there she is in Israel, for her 19th trip. From my reckoning, this makes it official. She’s made Aliya.

After chai, you’re an oleh.

I used to think that she made all those visits in order to “facilitate” the destruction of Israel. I still think so. But there’s another reason, and maybe it’s number one. She keeps going to Israel for VACATION. I’m not kidding. I mean, given a choice between, say, Darfur – places that are so filthy and dangerous – where would you go?

I’d go to the land flowing milk and honey.

(She just left and says this might be her final lap – PEACE IS AT HAND.)

So the million dollar question is this – Is Obama Good For The Jews? Answer: Well, he can’t be much worse than your typical Israeli politician. For lessons in extreme leftism, appeasement, capitulation, surrender, post-Zionism, he can learn from the best, the likes of any Israeli prime minister of recent vintage.

When Bad Things Happen to Good Computers

By Jack Engelhard

Well, it finally happened. My computer crashed. All my works in progress – gone! Fortunately, most of my novels are already published and listed on Amazon and elsewhere, so that’s good, and as for my journalism, well, that’s also preserved here and all over the Web.

I’ll bet I’m not alone in this. This has happened to everybody. We’re all at the mercy of technology and technology is not perfect. Stuff happens.

For some reason I equate all this with the economy, which also crashed, and I equate it even more with something almost cosmic, that our entire civilization rests upon the mercy and the good graces of a power higher up, beyond us mortals – in other words, we are all plugged in and, just like that, someone can pull the plug and plug us out.

Is this religion?

Charlie Gibson’s Gong Show

By Jack Engelhard

This was supposed to be Sarah Palin’s first big test but it was Charlie Gibson and the yuppity media that flunked for the sins of prejudice, snobbery and arrogance. This can’t be the best we’ve got in American journalism, a tradition that goes back to Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, Ernie Pyle, H.L. Mencken and Edward R. Murrow. Those days are gone.

This was not journalism’s finest hour — or how many hours it took for Gibson to blitz the VP nominee.

This was no interview. This was a trial.

I don’t care what side of the isle you sit on, Democrat or Republican, but you should be worried about the power of information, that it’s become so corrupted.
