Dear Editors: Now Can We Spill The Beans?

By Jack Engelhard

Congratulations to all those across the Non-Fox News media landscape…The New York Times, NPR, CBS, NBC, ABC et al…you got your man comfy back in the White House, so now you can tell it like it really is. That is, after years of lies and evasions, you can tell the truth for a change.

It’s okay. It’s safe. He’s in like Flynn. The truth can come out wherever it is.

From the moment your man came on the scene you covered for him at a loss of your integrity and your editorial judgment. You forgot rule number one; tell a story from both sides. You stopped being journalists. You became shills and hucksters and snake oil salesmen. By suppression and by deception you kept us in the dark.

By perversion and by distortion you kept us stumbling eyes wide shut. By hook and by crook you fixed your headlines to favor one man, one argument. By cunning and by mockery you slandered his opponent. By flagrant dishonesty you failed us and you failed yourselves upon your duty to keep us informed… and nothing is more dangerous than a population that receives propaganda in the guise of news.

Tom Friedman’s Kristallnacht

By Jack Engelhard

Jack Engelhard wrote the international bestselling novel “Indecent Proposal” that was translated into more than 22 languages and turned in a Paramount motion picture starring Robert Redford and Demi Moore. His award-winning book of memoirs, “Escape From Mount Moriah,” in the form of Nikila Cole’s filming of the book’s short story “My Father, Joe,” is an official selection in the CANNES Film Festival 2011.

Never thought I’d see the day when the world’s most influential newspaper would take it upon itself to incite a pogrom — but here it is in the pages of The New York Times, May 24/25, as Tom Friedman in his column “Lessons From Tahrir Square,” finds inspiration from Julius Streicher’s Der Sturmer.

Streicher, in his newspaper of the 1930s, knew how to inflame and so does Friedman who has broken his pledge as a newsman to assume the role of an instigator.

Here’s a man (and a newspaper) that has the power to ignite stampedes in the service of annihilating a particular country, namely Israel – and this match has now been lit.

Who knows what chaos may come from the long arm of this deceitful, irresponsible and reckless type of journalism.

Kristallnacht – Night of Broken Glass, November 9/10, 1938 – came as a result of combustible speeches and newspaper articles…exactly like Friedman’s. Hitler’s SA Stormtroopers rioted through the streets of Germany and Austria destroying all that was Jewish. German and Austrian citizen-mobs, drunk on hate fueled by propaganda, joined the fun of plunder and murder. They too had a cause, they too had grievances, which they have passed on to their next of kin.

Friedman, who in this world holds three Pulitzers along with Yasser Arafat’s Nobel for Peace, invokes Lara Logan’s Tahrir Square in goading thousands of Arab Palestinians to “peacefully” and “non-violently” march on Jerusalem to demand their rights toward a two-state “solution” – and whatever else is troubling them.

As if this slippery Friedman doesn’t know the odds against “peaceful” and “non-violent” when a mob gets assembled.

Spare the Pieties on Gaza– Jack Engelhard

Frankly, given a choice, I prefer the skinheads and other brutes who express their anti-Semitism openly. In such places, we know the enemy.

But please spare me the pieties and the righteous indignation of those “good people” protesting throughout Europe against Israel’s defensive operation in Gaza. True, thousands have taken up banners in support of Israel. At the same time, however, the streets of Europe (and even some in America) are in an uproar. These are the “humanitarians” – the good, the noble, the refined who chant “Peace.”

Now you’re up and about? Now you speak? Where were you when, throughout the years, thousands of Jihadist bombs fell on Israel? The streets of Europe were empty. There were no pictures in the newspapers of grieving Jewish mothers and fathers. You called it “peace” as long as the Arabs were doing the killing and the Jews were doing the dying. All was well with the world.

Liberals Sulking Over Me

By Jack Engelhard

The man said “I’ve been looking you up” and that sounded ominous and then he said “I’ve been reading you” and that sounded like a threat, which it was. “I’ll bet you’re a big fan of Ann Coulter,” he smirked, and when they smirk like that they remind me of Bill Maher – but hello indeed on Ann Coulter for the legs and the brains. I may be switching to Pamela Geller for her beauty and brains and also to maintain my letch credentials.

“I can see why you’ve been favorably compared to Hemingway,” the man said – but as we all know, no good deed or compliment goes unpunished.

Obama’s “Jewish Experts”

By Jack Engelhard

This is getting uncomfortable.

A few days ago, George Mitchell once again expressed his position, and opposition, even to “natural growth” in Judea and Samaria. Both Mitchell and Hillary Clinton speak for themselves and for President Barack Obama who’s made this – Jewish life in the “settlements” — his priority above all other international disputes.

Even the language is disturbing. Mitchell – top Middle East envoy along with Clinton – explained that the controversy centered on “the number of Jewish births.” Where have we heard this before? To my mind, as someone who was born under similar conditions, in France under Vichy, where Jews were kept within “restricted zones,” this sounds too much like Verboten!

When I hear American diplomats, and Obama himself, count the number of children allotted per Jewish family, at the same time measuring Jewish growth by the inch, the images that come to mind, to my mind, are of an earlier time, though not so long ago, when the Third Reich confronted the “Jewish Problem” by way of the Nuremberg Laws and the Wannsee Conference.

I picture Reinhard Heydrich and Adolf Eichmann. They, too, were Jewish Experts.

I hear echoes of “none is too many.” That was the response from Canada’s Mackenzie King’s government on the question of how many Jews were to be allowed inside the country following the Holocaust. Those words still ring throughout Canada, especially among survivors, but how did “none is too many” become an American position so fast and furious.

Beat Your Wife, Sell Books (V.S. Naipaul)

By Jack Engelhard

There’s a new book out on the life, loves, sexuality and brutality of V. S. Naipaul, a man who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2001.

Is there a Nobel Prize for Wife Beating? If so, Naipaul would have won that, too, easily.

The facts are all in a biography of Naipaul written by Patrick French in which (practically) nothing is hidden and in fact Naipaul wanted it all put down on paper, warts and all – and talk about warts! The man had a wife whom he pushed aside for a mistress and here’s my mistake. He did not beat his wife (not very much) but oh brother, he sure beat his mistress.

The review in the New York Times talks about his hands being sore from all the beatings he gave – never mind the woman from all the beatings she TOOK.

Here’s the clincher. This mistress did not mind getting beaten up because it was all for the sake of LITERATURE.
